TANKFEST

June 2010

TANKFEST at BOVINGTON TANK MUSEUM, WOOL, DORSET

Being the home of the Armoured Corps, this is a show which we just had to attend.  The museum had paid for a low loader to transport some of our vehicles, so we could take the Morris Light Recce car, one Universal Carrier and one Dingo.  The display area is flat grass lawn, so there was not much scope for an interesting display, but we lined our three vehicles up next to our 160lb tent and settled in for the weekend.  The temperature got up to 30 degrees that weekend, so much of our time was spent trying to stay in the shade and not get sun burnt.

Unfortunately, unlike last time we attended Tankfest, we were not allowed to drive our vehicles around the arena, so instead we went out for a road run after the public had left on the Saturday to a lovely country pub near Lulworth Cove.  Our little convoy comprised the Morris, Dingo, two Jeeps, an American wrecker and a half track.  The museum had some of their exhibit vehicles out to drive around the arena which included a Valentine, T34/85 and a Panzer Mk3 amongst other more modern vehicles.  All in all, a very enjoyable weekend.
